Beyond Binh Thuy Author's Notes

This book was originally published in 1995 as The Jesus Nut. Having learned a little more about writing and being aware of the need for a more commercial title I've taken on a rewrite in 2008. The characters and story line are unchanged, but some of the narrative and conversation have been rewritten to smooth out the flow. The word "that" has been removed from countless places. Transitions are now defined a little better since I no longer have the places so etched in my mind that I take them for granted and forget to tell the reader about them.

I found the plot just as compelling as when I first wrote the book and hope you will, too. It's a very realistic novel and I lived much of it. While the plot and the characters are fiction, the setting is very real. So, too, are the missions. Almost every mission in the book is based on an actual mission. Many I flew, others were flown by members of my unit. The setting the book is pretty much as it really existed though the timeline has been slightly adjusted in a few cases. An example is the blowing up of the Binh Thuy ammo dump, which actually happened after the Navy, Third Surgical Hospital and Dustoff unit had moved out.

Even if you bought at read the original version of this book, I think you'll enjoy the new one. So many people who read The Jesus Nut said it was a natural for a movie, so this time out I'm looking for a movie deal.

Thanks for being a loyal reader, and let me hear from you sometime.

Lots of photos and stories on DeltaDustoff.com support the flavor of the book.
